Frequently Asked Questions

Eyelashes

How long does the procedure take?

To ensure that a perfect job is done, it takes 1 1/2 to 2 hours for a full set of classic lash extensions to be applied. Volume Lashes could be upwards of 3 hours. My aim is to leave you looking stunning and glamorous, so no step can be skipped. Please allow me the proper time to do a professional job. If you need an infill, it will take 30-90 minutes to bring your lashes back to perfection. It helps if you come with clean eyes. This allows me more time to perfect those beautiful lashes.

Can I use an eyelash curler with my extensions?

No!!! I do not recommend using mechanical eyelash curlers on your extensions as this will damage the extensions and could also damage your natural lashes as well. I do offer a heated curling solution that you can ask me about.

What I should expect?

It starts with you reclining into a comfy chair. And with your eyes closed, I begin applying the Eyelash Extensions. Soothing music plays in the background and you are more than welcome to have a lash nap. The process is so comfortable and relaxing that many of my clients fall asleep and wake up with beautiful eyelashes. You should feel no discomfort whatsoever.

What sets you apart from other eyelash salons?

I use the highest quality glue and lash extensions on the market today. I take pride in my work and guarantee everything. I am highly trained in multiple procedures and techniques of lashing in order to give you the best eyelashes suited to you, your face shape and eye shape. Did you know that it is not one eyelash style for every person? With different curls and application styles I can lift a downward turned eye or help correct someone who has a wide set of eyes. Do you really want to trust your eyes to low quality products and inexperienced technicians? Good work is not cheap and cheap work is not good.

How do I take care of my Eyelash Extensions?

You are making an investment in yourself by having beautiful eyelashes extensions. I want to give you the best advice to make them last as long as possible. Eyelash Extensions will usually last for 2-4 weeks and if you look after them upwards of 6 weeks. So to keep them looking beautiful for longer follow these instructions below. Before the procedure:

  • Remove all eye makeup and clean your lashes preferably with an oil free make up remover. (If you come to your appointment with clean eyes then this allows me more time to apply your lashes)
  • Do not use moisturizer around your eyes the day of your appointment, and only use oil free everything around your eyes afterwards.
  • Set aside ample time for your appointment so we don't feel rushed. A full set of eyelashes usually takes between 1.5 to 3 hours. Depending on the type you choose. If you show up late to an appointment there is no guarantee that we will be able to provide a full set with the time left over. A rebooking may need to be done.
After the procedure:
  • No form of liquid should come in contact with the eyes for at least 12 hours. This means no swimming, steam shower, spa or hot tub. Also take the day off your workout as sweat in your eyes will also be an issue. The glue we use needs time to cure for long lasting eyelashes.
  • Only use 100% oil free make up remover, mascara, and eyeliner. It is recommended that you do not use these at all but if you must please be sure they are oil free. I can give you some recommendations of brands. Just ask.
  • Follow the guidlines on the complimentary after care card given at your first appointment.

What are infills?

Infills are the key to maintaining your lush new eyelashes. The Eyelash Extensions shed gradually over time. Typically you lose anywhere from 1 to 3 lashes automatically every day. To maintain the luster and fullness of your eyelash extensions, Infills are required once every 2 to 3 weeks. We simply apply individual Eyelash Extensions to the spaces available, bringing perfection back to your look.

Can I apply mascara to my Eyelash Extensions?

With the quality Eyelash Extensions we provide you, you do not need mascara. However, if you do insist on using some mascara, ensure that you steer clear of oil-based mascara. Use water based mascara instead. Oil based mascara will weaken the effect of the bonding agent and cause the Eyelash Extensions to fall off your natural lashes sooner than you would like. If you would like to use mascara and don't feel you can go without it then please discuss with me on which kind is best for eyelash retention. I can point you in the right direction.

What happens if I choose to have my eyelash extensions removed?

If you would like your eyelash extensions removed it is no problem. It usually takes between 20 and 30 minutes. We use a specially formulated gel that dissolves the glue so that there is no damage done to your natural lashes. Please note that it is dangerous to attempt to remove the extensions by yourself as this can cause damage to your natural lashes.

I have no natural eyelashes at all, can I wear Eyelash Extensions?

Eyelash extensions can only be applied on natural lashes. That is what holds them. You do need some natural lashes in order to receive a full set. Clients who are currently undergoing chemotherapy or suffering from alopecia, trichotillomania and other related diseases cannot undergo our procedure or wear Eyelash Extensions.

What if I have my eyelash extensions done at another salon? Will you do an infill for me?

This would have to be discussed before you book your appointment. Generally as a rule of thumb I do not infill someone else's work unless I know the quality and products they use. If you come to your appointment with lashes applied from another salon this will most likely mean that a full removal and re-application will be done.

What if I have gaps and or damage done to my natural lashes? Can they still be applied?

The best thing to do here is contact me and we can setup a free consultation so I can see what damage there is. There are stacking and capping technique's that I am certified in to bridge certain gaps and create the look of full lashes. I do also sell products that repair damaged lashes and aid their growth. Feel free to make enquiries about these products.

Will eyelash Extensions ruin my natural eyelashes?

Absolutely not!!! Technicians that are properly trained know how to apply eyelash extensions to not overweight the natural lash. There are many different weights and curls of eyelash extensions that can be used. I would first look at your natural lashes and only apply what they will be able to comfortably hold.

I am a bride to be looking for eyelash extensions. When is the best time to book for this?

We recommend booking 2 weeks before your wedding date to receive your full set. This way if there are any reactions at all they can be removed and you can still enjoy your wedding. If all is well then when it comes closer to your wedding date you would then need to book for an infill appointment. We recommend 1 or 2 days before your wedding date to have this done.

I have sensitivities to makeup and/or other beauty products. Can I still have eyelash extensions?

Especially if you are sensitive you should discuss this with me first. I can book you in for a patch test to ensure that you will not have an allergic reaction to the full procedure. This is normally done at least 48 hours before your full appointment and takes about 10 mins to perform.

What are the different types of eyelash extension styles?

How do I choose the look I want?

I will consult with you to understand what style you are looking for and what will work best with your face shape, natural eyelashes and how your eyes are placed. I can make a droopy eye seem lifted with specially placed eyelash extensions. I have taken an extra "eye styling" course to give you the best possible look for the different face and eye shapes that everyone has. This is eyelash extension styling at its finest.

Does it hurt to get your eyelash extensions done?

Absolutely not!!! In fact the experience is quite relaxing and enjoyable. You are placed on a soft reclining chair and covered with a blanket (If you choose). Your eyes are closed through the entire process; while you relax you listen to music playing in the background. "I take requests!!" Most of our clients actually fall asleep during the process and wake to beautiful lashes.

What if I have other questions?

Please contact me and I would be more than happy to answer all your questions. phone - 647-985-7669 (Call or Text) email - info@LashAddixx.com

Why are eyelash extensions so expensive?

Applying a set of eyelash extensions is a very intricate skill that should only be undertaken by a trained professional. Clients put their faith into the technician that they choose. They are working on a very delicate area with sharp tweezers and strong adhesives. The products used are of the highest medical grade quality and, as such are very expensive to purchase. The individual isolation of every suitable natural lash requires skill and time with infills and full sets taking anywhere between 1 to 3 hours to complete. This is not a speedy or cheap procedure. Remember cheap services are not great and great services are not cheap.

I have lost a few eyelash extensions in the first 24 hours.  Is this normal?

Yes it is completely normal, the average person loses between 2-5 lashes per eye, per day, so this is not unusual. If you have received volume lashes this will look like more, but rest assured you will loose a few daily through the natural shedding process.

Why have I lost alot of eyelashes in one eye only?

This is a good indication that you may sleep on that side during the night, This puts pressure onto the bonds of the eyelash extensions and can cause them to fall off. You are not really aware of what you do when you are sleping. You may even be rubbing your eye without knowing. The only thing I can suggest when this is occuing is try sleping with a mask over your eyes. I have cliets who swear by them and their retention has improved drastically.

Do I need a break from eyelash extensions to let my natural lash repair and breath?

If you are wearing a good set of eyelash extensions, custom created for you, then you should never need a break and can safely wear them week after week, month after month, year after year. With the caviet that you are keeping them clean daily and not wearing mascara on them.

Waxing

How do I prepair for my treatment?

You should exfoliate to prepare your skin before treatment and to keep it revitalized after your wax. We recommend exfoliating at least once a week after your wax to remove dead skin cells and to keep ingrown hairs at bay. Do not tan or spray tan before your service, and make sure you are not sunburned. If you spray tan before you wax, waxing will remove the spray tan when it exfoliates the dead skin cells. Please leave 24 hours before and after for tanning of any kind.

Can some medications affect my ability to get waxed?

Yes. If you have been on Accutane within the past year, you cannot be waxed. Additionally, acne medications that contain Adapalen, Alustra, Avage, Avita, Differin, Isotetinoin, Renova, RetinA, Tazarotene, and Tretinoin should be avoided within three months of service. You may wax with caution if you currently use alpha hydroxy acids, salicylic acid, or benzoyl peroxide around treatment areas.

How close together should I schedule my waxing appointments?

Every person’s regrowth cycle is different. While some people get waxed every three weeks, some can go six weeks between visits. Try four weeks apart at first and go from there.

Should I take Ibuprofen before my visit?

There is no need for a pain reliever before your wax. We also ask that you do not drink alcohol before your appointment. Alcohol causes dehydration, and when you are dehydrated, your skin is more sensitive.

Do I need to be careful what I put on the newly waxed area?

Creams, moisturizer, deodorant, and lotions can all clog your pours, so don’t use them for several hours after your wax.

What should I wear to my appointment?

Wear something comfortable! You will be more comfortable after waxing if you wear looser clothing. Dress so that the area you are waxing is easily accessable.

Do I have to wait to wax after a skin peel or microdermabraision?

Yes. You should wait approximately one month to get waxed after a skin peel or microdermabrasion procedure.

Will my hair grow back darker or thicker?

No! Quite the opposite. Your hair will grow back with a finer texture, and it will be easier to remove at your next appointment. The best part is that the more you wax, the less it hurts!

Can I still get waxed if I have eczema/psoriasis?

While these conditions do not prohibit waxing, I do not apply wax over irritated skin.

How long does my hair have to be before I can get waxed?

A good rule of thumb is if you can pinch it, you can wax it. In essence, there must be enough hair for the wax to take hold. If you are a first-time waxing client, your hair should be slightly longer – approximately a quarter to a half an inch long. This will make your waxing experience more comfortable, and we will be able to effectively remove all the hair.

Will  the waxing process cause bleeding?

First-time bikini and underarm waxing can sometimes cause minor bleeding, but this is nothing to worry about. Both areas are sensitive, and if you have been shaving for a long time, the hair here will be thick and coarse. When the hair is like this, it can bring drops of blood up with it when detached from the follicle. This is completely normal and nothing to be alarmed about. With regular waxing, bleeding will not occur as the hair grows in finer and thinner.

Can I exercise after geting waxed?

You should avoid working out for 48 hours after your appointment, since perspiration can irritate newly waxed skin.

Should I shave between visits?

While it may be tempting to shave or trim, don’t do it! Shaving between visits will remove more hair growth. If you are tempted to shave or trim between visits, try scheduling your appointments closer together.

What is hard wax?

Hard wax is a special polymer that “shrink wraps” the hair for ease of removal, particularly on difficult hair growths. It sticks to the hair and not the skin, allowing for a less sensitive waxing experience, and reduces the discomfort of waxing by 50 percent.

Is it safe to wax while I am pregnant?

Yes, it is perfectly safe to wax while you are pregnant. Women can and have been waxed right up to their due date! Please be aware though that that the hormones of pregnancy may make you more sensitive to pain, but waxing frequently will eliminate much of this discomfort. Remember, that every pregnancy is different, and if you have concerns, consult your doctor before waxing.

What happens if I get sunburned between visits?

If you get a sunburn, just wait for it to heal before getting waxed again. This will prevent your skin from lifting during the waxing process, which can hurt. This same guideline applies to rashes and other skin conditions.

Why Wax to begin with?

Waxing is one of the best ways to temporarily remove unwanted hair. It is more effective than shaving because it removes hair from the roots, not just from the skin’s surface. Over time, hair in waxed areas regrows lighter and sparser or not at all.

Even fine hair shadows the face, distorting and aging your features. Waxing the brows opens up the eyes, providing a non-surgical facelift. You keep the hair on your head well-maintained, so why not everywhere else?

Will I get ingrown hairs?

It's possible. Waxing removes the entire hair, root and all, from the follicle. Your skin naturally hardens and thickens over the area that was waxed so it is important to keep that area gently exfoliated. Use a gentle scrub in that area about 2 days after waxing and continue to exfoliate 1 to 2 times a week thereafter. Remember, please be gentle! Also, use a mixture of tea tree and lavender oil. Both are antimicrobial and antibacterial and will prevent irritation. Try to wear loose-fitting clothes for a few days after to give your skin a chance to breathe and reduce moisture. The bikini, lip and underarms are where we tend to perspire the most. Perspiration and moisture cause bacteria to grow. Once that area has been waxed, the follicle is wide open to this bacteria creeping in. Try to avoid heavy exercise that will increase perspiration and chaffing for about 24-48 hours after waxing.

What kind of wax do you use? I have some allergies or sensative skin.

The wax that I use is from Starpil. It is a hard wax that works great for large areas such as legs, underarms and the bikini area. I use a soft yellow strip wax to do the eyebrows and smaller areas where more precision is needed. I also use Starpil gel prepil to cleans the area before and Gigi post wax cooling gel to refresh the skin afterwards. These are the ingredients: Starpil blue hard wax Colophonium (rosin), glyceryl rosinate, beeswax (cera alba), cera microcristallina (microcrystalline wax) paraffin, PEG-3 dirosinate, ethylene/va copolymer, BHT, paraffinum liquidum (mineral oil) Starpil gel prepil Aqua (water), alcohol denat, propylene glycol, hamamelis virginiana leaf water, chamomilla recutita (matricaria) flower extract, bisabolol, farnesol, melaleuca alternifolia leaf oil, rosmarinus officinalis leaf, oil, peg-40 castor oil, glycerin, carbomer, camphor, menthol, imidazolidinyl urea dipropylene glycol, citric acid, sodium benzoate, potassium sorbate, cI 19140, hydroxycitronellal, hexyl cinnamal, citronellol, linalool, limonene, parfum (fragrance), triethanolamine. GiGi Post wax cooling gel Aqua (water), alcohol denat, glycerin, aloe barbadensis leaf juice, cucumis sativus (cucumber) fruit extract, menthol, PEG-40 hydrogenated caster oil, butylene glycol, carbomer, triethanolamine, methylparaben, propylparaben, blue 1.

Is there an age limit for getting anything waxed?

I will wax clients of any age, (within reason) but if you are younger than 18 we do require a parent to accompany you to sign our waxing consent form.

What all is included in the full facial wax?

The Full Facial Wax can include any area that you would like, but typically it includes an eyebrow shaping, upper lip, and chin wax. Some clients like to have their cheeks and sideburns waxed as well. It's really whatever you prefer!

How do you keep your implements sanitized and ensure things are kept safe?

All of my re-usable tools are fully scrubed with soap and water, then left to sit in a solution called CS-20 for 20 minutes. This is above industry standards. The wooden spatulas are never re-used and the towels are replaced in between every client. They are also washed with bleach. I take great pride in being Durham Health Certified. Lash Addixx & Esthetics is not only my dream, but it is my pssion. It is my pleaseure to provide you with a relaxing, safe and clean environment.

Nails

Will Shellac or other UV polishes harm my nails?

No! A Shellac or gel manicure should never harm your natural nails. With the proper application and removal, your nails should remain in the same condition you started with. Some clients may notice white patches on their nails occasionally; this is due to dryness. To combat this, regularly apply a cuticle oil or conditioner on your nails. I recommend CND Solar Oil or Burts Bees Lemon Cuticle Balm. This is a great practice to maintain healthy flexible nails all year round!

Will Acetone harm my nails?

No! Acetone is NOT harmful to your nails or your skin. Acetone is, in fact natural and found in trees and plants. It is also found in our own bodies! It is a solvent produced to help us break down fat. There are many “non-acetone” nail polish removers on the market that claim to be the healthier alternative; they are misleading. “Non-acetone” removers can be comprised of irritating dyes, fragrances and fillers that are completely un-natural. Because it is a solvent, acetone may temporarily dry your nails. After use, moisture is easily restored with a cuticle oil or conditioner.

Is it safe to continue manicures and pedicures throughout my pregnancy?

Yes. There is NO evidence that implies any product used during a manicure (UV, acrylic or otherwise) is harmful to the mother or the fetus. A doctor who will advise you otherwise is referring to the sanitary concerns that arise from salons and spas that do not properly disinfect their implements, use proper nail products or maintain a clean environment.

How do you maintain a sanitary environment and disinfect your tools/implements?

I take sanitation extreamly seriously. I disinfect everything using only the methods as directed by the Ontario Minisry and Health. I am Durham Health Certified and they inspect at regular intervals to ensure their standards are met. I thoughourly scrub my implements and then they soak in CS-20 for 20 mins. They are then put in a sealed medical grade wrap and are only opened at the time of the service in front of you. My towels are replaced inbetween clients and are washed with bleach. I take such pride in my spa. I do this with the utmost love and care. Having Lash Addixx & Esthetics is my dream and it is my pleasure to provide you with treatments that are not only fabulous but also safe. Relax, you are in great hands!!

Spray Tanning

What should I do before my appointment to prepair?

Complete all other beauty services the day before like nails, waxing, facials and massages. Do not shave your legs within 4 hours of your appointment as this may cause uneven results. Your pores need time to close to avoid discolouration. If you must shower before your appointment, finish with a cold rinse to help close those pores. Also ensure you are washing off all that soap and product from your skin. Do not apply make-up, deoderant, mosturizer, lotion or any cream to your skin as this will act as a barrier and block absorption of the tanning mist. Dress in loose fitting clothes. (No denim, yoga pants, tight bras or underwear). Ideally bring flip flops as well. I use Aviva Labs solutions. They are oil-free, which means they will not stain your clothes, bedsheets, or couch. Exfoliate 24 hours before with an oil-free product. This is the most important aspect of your before-appointment regimen. By exfoliating your entire body you are turning your skin into a clean slate. Do not take this lighlty!!! This is the key to ensuring you have an even tan that lasts longer. I can give you advice on the best products to us to help you extend your tan by up to 3 days!!

What should I do after my appointment?

Stay away from all moisture until your first shower. This means no showers, work outs, crying, cleaning, lotions, and no liquid foundations on the skin. Your tan needs the proper time to develop. If you need this "be careful time" to be shorter please ask for a rapid tan. Take your first shower (Rinse only - no soaps and shampoos) in 8-12 hours for a regular tan and 2-3 hours for a rapid tan. Until then, wear loose fitting clothing. (No denim, no bras, and no yoga pants.) Ideally, wear a long t-shirt dress and flip flops. We know it’s hard, but keep your hands off your hot self. No leg crossing or other skin to skin contact. Bring a towel to sit on in your car if you have leather seats. Do NOT go more than than 24 hours after your appointment to shower. Moisturize, Moisturize, Moisturize!!! A spray tans worse enemy after the develop time is dry skin, so moisturize so your skin stay soft and supple. Use a tan extender to extend that beautiful glow by up to 3 days. Do not exfoliate until you are ready to say good-bye to your tan.

What can I do to preserve my tan?

Avoid swimming, long showers, baths, steam rooms, and saunas. Avoid harsh chemicals such as chlorine, products containing acids, massages, fashion tape, bandages, and anything else that may strip your tan. Moisturize in the AM and PM with an oil-free moisturizer. From Day 3 onwards, you can use our Tan Extender as your moisturizer. Don’t exfoliate until you are ready to say goodbye. And, when you are, use an exfoliating mitt to create the perfect canvas for your next tan.

How long will my spray tan last?

Your spray tan should last anywhere 5 to 7 days, depending on your aftercare. If you would like it to last longer please ask me how we can make that happen.

Aren't spray tans orange?

Not this one! The orange discoloration is due to improper application, color mixology, or improper skin care either before or after your spray tan. Follow our prep and aftercare instructions and you will be the perfect shade of bronze.

Do I tan naked?

Most woman tan nude to avoid the tan lines. If you prefer a tan line, we recommend a thin strong thong. For the men: Minimal clothing, such as boxers or briefs.

How long does an appointment take?

Your spray tan will usually take 15–20 minutes, but I can’t get enough of you. So I allocate a full 30 minutes for each client.

Can I still tan in the sun with a spray tan?

You can, but why age prematurely and damage that beautiful skin of yours?! Seriously, wear SPF babe. Spray tans provide no UV protection.

Why spray tan anyway?

It just feels good to look good. Spray tanning is a fun, safe and simple way to get a beautiful tan without damaging your skin. As an added bonus!! Your friends won't need sunglasses when looking at your white body on the beach. :)

How old do I have to be to spray tan?

You must be 16 to book this service with me or have a parrents signed consent.

How long will it take before I see results?

Right away!! You will automatically see your skin darker when you end the session. This will increase within the next 12 hours before your shower.

Do I need to wear a mask during my visit?

Yes you will be required to wear a mask during your visit. I will be wearing one as well. This is to protect both of us and help lower the risk and spread of Covid-19. It is impossible to do a service and stay 2 meters apart so this is mandatory.

Teeth Whitening

I have sensative teeth.  Will this make it worse?

Short answer....No. The system we use causes little to no sensativity to your teeth. If you have sensative teeth I recomend using Sesodyne toothpaste.

What is the difference between your system and a dentist office system?

We use the same type of gel and light that the dentist's use. The only differance is the cost. We can whiten your teeth the same at a much less price.

How long do the results last from teeth whitening?

Average results for the whitening gel that we use is 6 months to 1 year. This this also depends entirely upon your own tooth enamel and on your habits.

What are the aftercare instructions?

We ask that you have a water only diet for at least 2 hours. 4 if possible. We also ask that within the first 24-48 hours you not put anything in your mouth that would stain your teeth. Red wine, coffee, tea, tabacco. Brightly coloured foods. The pours in your teeth will be open and thus will stain your teeth again. Please wait. You will be happy you did.

Would my insurance cover this procedure?

No, I have never seen an insurance company cover this as it is cosmetic.

I had the treatment and now I have white spots on my teeth.  What is that?

This does not happen to everyone, but if you do get white spots they will typically disapear within 24 hours. This is calcium that is in your teeth. This is not cause as a result of the treatment but the treatment will bring out exsisting spots more clearly.

Who should not undergo teeth whitening?

If you are pregnant or lactating you should not do this. Anyone with a dental disease such as gingivitis, or exposed roots should not do this. If you have braces or have had them within the last 6 months then we recomend you wait. Anyone with an open cavity should not do this. Teeth whitening will only whiten your natural teeth. If you have a bridge, crown or veneer it will not whiten this.

What should I expect from the results?

We typically see up to 3 shades whiter with the first 20 min treatment. I recommend doing 3 treatments at 15 mins each to get up to 8 shades whiter. We use a shade guide to determin what shade your teeth are before and after the treatment.

How is the procedure done and how long does it take?

The full procedure takes about an hour. You will do 3 treatments of 15 minutes each. Rinsing and reapplying in between each one. This should be done one right after another for the best results.

How do I know i'm getting results?

Before your procedure we do a colour check with a tooth shade aparatus. Once finished we check the colour again and verify how many shades whiter you got. The results are immediate.
